About The Event

It is our pleasure to announce that the 14th Annual ROTARY KEY BISCAYNE WINE & FOOD FEST will be held on Thursday, November 15th  2018, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm at The Rusty Pelican. The evening’s proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne Foundation (RCKBF) and its affiliated charities for adults and children.

In this year’s showdown, five judges will taste some of the finest wines produced worldwide. This will not be a competition between the new world vs the old world – here every bottle of wine will be judged by its own attributes! 21 wine varietals, five judges, and two winning finalists.

The evening begins with a tasty Prosecco upon arrival to “season the palate” for the wonderful wines to follow.  More than 30 wines will be offered including the wines participating in the competition.

Shari Gherman, president of the American Fine Wine Competition & Gala, will join us again as our wine director and five noted wine professionals will be judging these exciting wines: Patrick Sullivan, Wine Educator and professional Wine Judge; Wendy Rosano, Sommelier and Certified Specialist of Wine; Roberto Colombi, Sommelier and GM of The Blue in the Waldorf Astoria Boca Raton Resort, Delius Shirley, owner of Ortanique on the Mile in Coral Gables and Jacqueline Coleman, wine columnist for Biscayne Times Newspaper, Let’s Eat Magazine and South Florida Luxury Guide will conclude the professional Judging panel.

Amber Love BondAmber Love Bond, columnist for Media Bites, Eater Miami, TimeOut Magazine Miami, Brickell Living and a few other publications will be joining our professional judges’ team as our official food writer in charge of selecting the best food delicacies of the evening.  Additionally, the event will feature a People’s Food Choice award for the “Best of Show”.

All presented wines have been graciously supplied by Strategic Importers and will be available for sale at the event through The Wine Wave our official wine retailer. The Wine Wave, will coordinate all orders, payment, delivery and pick-up. A variety of food delicacies prepared by several prominent South Florida restaurants are included in the price of admission.

In addition, Rotary’s collaboration continues with The Arc of South Florida. The Arc of South Florida’s members will organize a silent auction and receive part of the proceeds to fund its programming. Auction lots will consist of items, including travel, restaurant vouchers, sports memorabilia, and select goods and services.  Rather than each organization holding an independent fundraising event, The Arc of South Florida works together with the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne Foundation to offer attendees a wonderful evening and an opportunity to support charitable efforts in our community.

This year, Rotary is excited to announce its collaboration with The Key Biscayne Community Foundation to further its support of the Chief Press Youth Project in Liberty City.  In 2013, the Village of Key Biscayne partnered with the Miami Children’s Initiative to create a Sister City partnership with Liberty City.  By sharing cultural ideas and differences and learning from each other, both communities aim to provide better outcomes for children in under-served communities and opportunities for neighbors of different communities to learn and care about each other.

The proceeds from this event qualify for multiple matching grants.  Over the past four years, the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne has successfully obtained matching grants from local Rotary District 6990 and The Rotary International Foundation in Evanston, IL exceeding $400,000 to maximize the charitable impact of this fundraiser.

The proceeds from this event qualify for multiple matching grants. Proceeds allocated to domestic charitable causes are matched 100% by the local Rotary district, while proceeds allocated to international charitable causes are matched by both the local Rotary district and Rotary International, for a combined total match of 250%. Over the past two years, the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne has successfully obtained matching grants exceeding $60,000 to maximize the charitable impact of this fund raiser.
